THE CHEWSTICK RETREAT

Something to share.
Something to learn.

Retreat workshops are led by participants. Share a skill, an interest or an approach that others can make their own.

Offer a breakout session

Sessions last 90 minutes to two hours and span wellness, intellectual exploration and creative practice. No one needs to arrive as an expert in every topic; the aim is to make ideas accessible and invite participation.

Add a one- or two-sentence proposal when you register. Accepted facilitators receive the $150 Retreat rate, a 40% discount on the general adult rate.

Facilitator points to note

  • Our goal is to offer a collage of Wellness, Intellectual and Creative sessions for retreat participants. These are 90 minutes to two hours on topics that need to be general enough to be of interest to a broad group of listeners who don’t all have the same areas of expertise. There are limited slots based on interest so the sooner we have the description the sooner we will gauge the interest and be able to confirm or deny your breakout session.
  • Topics can cover anything that relates to technique, creative interest or development approaches that have been successful and could be of benefit to others who could implement a similar idea or share. Sessions have benefitted from the opportunity for group interaction and participation.
  • Breakout sessions may be held outdoors and there is very little possibility for multimedia support, however if you require materials beyond paper and pencils please advise so that we may accommodate or you will have to source the materials yourself.
  • Please write a 1 to 2 sentences summary of the breakout session you are proposing that could potentially be included in Retreat Schedule
  • These sentences will help us to present your idea in order to seek the interest of fellow participants on your behalf.
  • If your breakout session is not accepted in the offerings during the break out session times, there is still the option to present during the free time, so don’t despair.

What might a session look like?

Previous Retreat workshops have included creative writing, yoga, photography, life drawing, guitar, salsa, capoeira, head wrapping, art journals, improvisation and personal empowerment. These examples show the range; the programme for each Retreat depends on the ideas participants bring.

Workshop evaluation

The facilitator document also includes a participant evaluation. It asks for the workshop title, presenter and workshop block, then ratings from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree) on these statements:

  • I found this workshop useful.
  • I found this workshop fun.
  • The presenter led the workshop well.
  • The presenter helped me to understand how the workshop subject related to my own life.
  • I would recommend this workshop to others.
  • This workshop should be offered every Retreat.

There is also space for additional comments or suggestions. Open the original guide and evaluation sheet (opens in a new tab).
